core

Developing and maintaining a healthy CORE is the most essential aspect of stewarding the voice God gave you. - cr

The creative life is not for the faint of heart, and for those who feel called to impact culture with “Big T” truth, there’s an extra large target on your back in the spiritual realm. Yet most creatives - especially those in ministry - are so busy pouring out that they end up running on empty.

If you’re reading this, you probably know what I’m talking about…

By its very nature, creative and/or ministry work involves unique emotional, relational and even spiritual challenges that those outside of this space may have trouble supporting you in. And if you happen to be someone in the public eye, it can be tempting to hide the struggles you are facing out of fear of being misunderstood or sidelined.

OF ALL THE CLIENT WORK I DO, CORE WORK IS MY GREATEST PASSION. Wherever you are in your creative journey or public platform, there is no better time than NOW to get intentional about protecting your mind, will and emotions so that when things get weird, your voice doesn’t lose its strength.

Because I fiercely protect the confidentiality of my CORE clients, I don’t post public testimonials for this category. - cr

We’ll start with a FREE DISCOVERY CALL (30 min.), during which we can both determine whether I am a fit for where Jesus has you in this season. If so, this part of my work is done on a sliding scale, not to exceed my rates published in the BRAND and CRAFT categories, and in some cases lower according to your unique situation and resources. I can explain this more in our Discovery Call. - cr

FAQs

  • As an ICF-certified coach, I am passionate about A) being a safe listening ear who “gets” the unique aspects of the creative journey (and creatives in general), and B) helping you overcome whatever it is that hinders you from using your voice as God intended.

With nearly two decades of personal and professional experience in recovery spaces, I am very comfortable with uncomfortable topics, and have a heart to bring compassionate encouragement, discernment, and straightforward feedback when it best serves the client.

Please note that coaching is different than counseling, and many of us benefit from both. I will do my best to guide you toward counseling if I discern it would be of more benefit to your growth goals.

  • Following our Discovery Call, if you choose to work with me I typically recommend a standard 50-minute session in six-session packages. These are normally via Zoom though if you are local we can talk through in-person options.

Sessions typically begin with an emotions-check-in, to get your relational circuits firing. From there, my goal is to be attentive to what you want to get out of that session time, with flexibility along the way according to how God leads us. Typically we’ll come out of the session with at least one actionable “SMART” goal, based on your stated desires.

  • Depending on where we’re starting and what your goals are, times can vary greatly. What I have found to be helpful is work with clients in six-session blocks, after which we can evaluate the desire to pursue an additional block.

  • There are a lot of ways to answer this question, but for me, perhaps the easiest differentiation is that while counseling often involves deep work around particular past events that have shaped our behaviors, coaching is focused on removing obstacles to pursue desired new behaviors. It is goal-oriented, and if it is effective, forward momentum should be realized in some manner.

NOTE: For many creatives, forward momentum is actually evidenced by slowing down a little and giving yourself permission to breathe so you can create from a position of overflow. It may sound counter-intuitive, but such a shift can actually produce greater results in the long run.

  • Due to its sensitive nature, coaching requires the intentional development of relational trust to be effective. Because of this, I generally require a commitment of six-sessions at a time for my coaching clients. These can be weekly, bi-weekly or even monthly. Fees can be paid up front for a discount, or we can go session-by-session. If financial assistance is needed, please feel free to let me know.

  • I am highly committed to the 100% confidentiality of my CORE clients. I will never ask you for a public testimonial or tell others I’m working with you without your permission, even if they ask me straight out. If we run into each other in a public place, I will in no way acknowledge you in any revealing manner. You will also never hear me talk about my other CORE clients by name, even if their journey overlaps yours in some way. After 20+ years of experience in church, ministry and recovery settings I can say with confidence that I am extremely capable of maintaining this confidentiality even when working with people who operate within similar (or in some cases the same) realms.
