feeling uninspired?

This is actually the second version of today’s post. The first was on a totally different topic, and while it was decent, and would have allowed me to check this “task” off my list several hours ago, it just felt a little… flat to me. A good concept, but lacking a tangible personal investment.

So I’m starting over.

Here’s what’s TRUE for me right now…

  • I feel uninspired.

  • I feel unproductive in my purpose.

  • I feel lonely.

Before you rush my inbox with worried emails, I invite you to consider whether you feel some of these same things sometimes. And whether you think it’s ok to admit it out loud, especially to those you hope think you have your act together.

Or maybe you're feeling that way right now. (are you?)

The reality is that for all our sensitivity to intuition and flow, we creatives probably don't take enough time to examine how we really feel about what we’re creating, AND about how others are responding to it.

In our digital age, the creative process often feels like a giant open loop: we create...we share... and if we're lucky, we might hear from a few people who pause long enough to tap a screen, post an emoji, or (miracle of miracles) actually write a few words of encouragement.

Since God wired humans for meaningful connection with other humans, though, that will never be enough to fill our sails for very long. And if we're honest with ourselves, sometimes that leads to a crash.

What can we do in the midst of our malaise?

How about…

  • Give ourselves permission to feel uninspired.

  • Give ourselves permission to feel unproductive.

  • Make a coffee date with a friend. (or maybe a few...)

Inspiration will come again. It always does. Especially if you're intentional about looking to God as your ultimate source.

In the meantime, when you feel a little stuck, just speak what is TRUE. Even if it feels a little uncomfortable. At least that way you’re creating honest art.

And that's more inspiring than "decent" ever will be.

For TRUTH...
